Activities at walter Peak station

The Lodge at Walter Peak Station offers an alternative to the well-worn tourist track. Here, a road less travelled leads to some unique adventure opportunities amongst the pristine beauty of New Zealand’s high country.

Activities at Walter Peak Station:
Hiking

Breathe some of the cleanest air in the world and see some spectacular views, as our guides take you through the station back country to some of the areas vantage points and lookouts. Walks are available for all levels and abilities.

Farm tours

Take a high country guided four wheel drive tour around the vast historic Walter Peak Station. You’ll see dog demonstrations and, depending on the season, a sheep muster and shearing.

GGuided activities that can be organised for you in conjunction with Queenstown operators:

Fishing

Brown trout, rainbow trout and salmon all await your arrival. There is superb fly fishing on the Lochy river near the cascade hut. Or you could try boat casting a spinner or fly near where a stream enters the lake. Rainbow trout are found in deeper waters and are often caught by trolling. Our guides will show you all the best spots even the locals don’t know about! You can also bring your own fishing gear and we can point you in the right direction! (a fishing license is required)

Mountain biking

There’s an easy one-day round trip (about 25km) following a back country gravel road from Walter Peak to Mount Nicholas along the western shores of lake Wakatipu. The more adventurous ‘Around the Mountains’ trail, which includes an overnight camp, takes you through the Von Valley to the Mavora Lakes. Or you choose the level of terrain and our guides will point you in the right direction!

Heli-skiing and skiing

If you want yours to be the only trail cut through the powder, then heli-skiing on the station is the definitely the way to go. If you need to make it more family-friendly for junior members, we can take you to any of the ski fields in the Queenstown area – Cardrona, Coronet Peak, Treble Cone and The Remarkables.

Kayaking

Choose from a range of sheltered, safe and scenic excursions on serene Lake Wakatipu. All gear is provided, so you can relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of this world-class destination.

Clay-bird shooting

What better, and safer, place to do some trap shooting than remote Walter Peak station. We’ll provide all the gear and supervise your shoot. You just to bring your A game!

Explore our high country station and enjoy these adventure activities during the day, then retreat to our lodge for an evening of fine dining and local wines.
